This very unique bird area is situated in the southern Bohemia on the borders with Austria amid the municipalities of Suchdol nad Lužnicí, Třeboň, Lomnice nad Lužnicí, Kardašova Řečice and Lásenice.

There are specially protected nineteen bird species - the black stork (Ciconia nigra), the black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius), the greylag goose (Anser anser), the gadwall (Anas strepera), the Eurasian pygmy owl (Glaucidium passerinum), the black-crowned night heron (Nycticorax nycticorax), the common kingfisher (Alcedo atthis), the European nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus), the northern shoveler (Anas clypeata), the western marsh harrier (Circus aeruginosus), the white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla), the common tern (Sterna hirundo), the woodlark (Lullula arborea), the bluethroat (Luscinia svecica), the middle spotted woodpecker (Dendrocoptes medius), the boreal owl (Aegolius funereus), the European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus), the great white heron (Ardea alba) and the grey-headed woodpecker (Picus canus).
